Colonel Stephen P. Corcoran is the Commander of Joint Communications Support Element, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.
Colonel Corcoran graduated from William Paterson University in 1985 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon completion of the Basic School in 1985, he attended the Communication Officers School then transferred to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 where he served as a platoon commander.
Transferring to 8th Communication Battalion in 1987, he was assigned as a platoon commander and then company executive officer for Alpha Company. There he deployed to Panama as a detachment commander and the Marine Forces Panama S-6 Officer.
In 1990, he transferred to the U.S.S. Wasp where he was assigned as the Assistant Communications Officer. During this tour, he was promoted to captain, made two deployments and participated in Operations Provide Comfort, Deny Flight and counter-narcotics operations in South America. Upon completion of this tour, he transferred to the Amphibious Warfare School for instruction.
After graduating the Amphibious Warfare School, he transferred to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) in 1993 as the S-6 Officer. There he made two deployments and participated in Operations Provide Promise, Restore Hope, UNOSOM II, Deny Flight and Sharp Guard.
In 1995, he reported to the 2nd Marine Division where he served as the Commanding Officer Communication Company and then as the S6 Officer for 6th Marines. During this tour he was promoted to major and assigned to the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. While there, he earned his Masters Degree in Military Studies and was designated a Distinguished Graduate.
In 1997, he was assigned to the Amphibious Warfare School as an Expeditionary Operations Instructor and the Military Operations Other than War Course Director.
In 2000, he reported to 8th Communication Battalion for duty as the battalion executive officer. During this tour, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and was assigned as the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade G-6 Officer. During Iraqi Freedom, he served as the G-6 Officer for Task Force Tarawa.
In 2003, he assumed command of Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18. While in command, he led the squadron in numerous deployments throughout the Pacific Rim. In 2005, he was assigned as the executive officer for Marine Air Control Group 18 until reassignment to the College of Naval Warfare where he earned his second Masters Degree in National Security and Policy and was promoted to his current rank.
In 2006, Colonel Corcoran was assigned to the United States Central Command where he was assigned as Chief of Operations and Plans for the J6 Directorate supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Colonel Corcoran is also a graduate of the Winter Mountain Leaders School, The Field Grade Winter Operations Course, The Basic Airborne Course, and the Advanced Communications Information Systems Course. His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, the Navy Commendation Medal with three gold stars, the Navy Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon..
